Complexity Paradigms for Smart, Green and Integrated Transport 2012

Welcome to the website of the Complexity Paradigms for Smart, Green and Integrated Transport 2012, a one day Satellite Meeting organized inside the European Conference on Complex Systems 2012 in Brussels.

Scope of the Meeting

The objective of this meeting is to assess the problems of transportation systems through Complex Systems theory and methodologies. Transportation Systems are composed of a large number of heterogeneous elements; interacting, perceiving different information from the environment, and pursuing heterogeneous/different aims. Examples range from very well known systems, like road traffic dynamics, up to new fields, such as the Air Transport Network. Plenty of examples can be found in the literature about how different Complex Systems tools can be used to understand the internal dynamics of those systems, from Complex Networks, up to percolation and self-organization.

The meeting aims to create a space for exchanging state-of-the-art results and ideas on this interesting topic. Special attention will be devoted to applications, i.e., how those tools and techniques can be used to improve the performance of real systems. Contributions centered on societal and environmental aspects and citizens’ perceptions will be especially welcome.

The Call for Papers

Submission of contributed papers can be made by sending an extended abstract (max. 3 pages) to the organizers (see email addresses below). Standard LaTeX, PDF, or Microsoft Words formats are encouraged. Submissions will be evaluated and selected by the program committee members, based on the adherence to the theme of the satellite, originality and scientific soundness. Once the selection process is complete, the authors of the accepted abstracts will be notified by e-mail.

The deadline for abstract submission for oral contributions is May 27, 2012. UPDATE: In response to a number of requests the submissions period has been extended – the new deadline is July 1st, 2012.
